South Façade 22 of 44

This work is a replica a of one column from the colonnade at the south entrance of the British Museum, an institution that perpetuates imperial and colonial ideas in a post-imperial society. Scaled up from a screengrab to the approximate size of the original and printed on A4 sheets it becomes pixelated and distorted, highlighting the precarious way in which we view these kinds of structures.

Blurring the lines between printmaking and sculpture, while not quite being either of those things and definitely being both of those things, this work, laying mostly on the floor, creates a bizarre contradiction of space that is both a true representation and a clownish façade creating a sense of unease that exists in the space between the sincere and the insincere.

The video work that was projected onto this work is a four frame tour of The Parthenon Gallarey of The British Museum. It is intended to highlight the imperial legacy that remains a reality in the 21s century.
