Puth Guth
Puth Guth, which directly translates from Irish to Breath Voice, was a collaborative performance between artists Lynn-Marie Dennehy and Ciara Dawson at the Baltic 39 gallery space in Newcastle-Upon Tyne. The performance served as a protest or antidote against an oppressive Anglophone institution, particularly exploring the Irish diaspora experience. By focusing on breathing patterns and roman oratory hand signals, the performers communicated and navigated the space silently, rendering language obsolete and empowering themselves by its omission. By doing so, "Puth Guth" challenged traditional narratives and offered a fresh perspective on cultural displacement and resistance, reminding viewers of the power inherent in reclaiming one's voice.
