Problems of Frailty
This body of work reimagines Michel Foucault’s heterotopic spaces, creating instead ‘heterotopic objects’, objects that exist in a state of contradiction, that act as an interruption between representation and objective truth. Through a process of manipulation and re-appropriation the aim is to undermine our historical and emotional connection to the white marble statue.
By taking screen grabs of Greek and Roman sculpture and blowing them up to actual size this work highlights the precarious way in which we receive information. The undisguised supports, the pixilation from enlargement and the warped perspectives undermine the emotional connection to a pristine marble statue and allows an intellectual space for the viewer to consider how information is received, how information is manipulated and, hopefully, how you can see through that to the truth.
